Grand Style

“I believe that style is the only real luxury that is really desirable”
Giorgio Armani

We tried to envision what our Grand Dame would have been like. Her thoughts, emotions, values and her looks, which became the inspiration behind the revival of the Grand House.

Now,  after the opening of our Grand House, we are often asked what our Grand Style is all about. We created our Grand House as if it were a Grand Residence, not a hotel. We planned it as an opulent family house, adding the highest level of detail.

IDEAS OF ENLIGHTENMENT

Vila Real de Santo António has been strongly influenced by the Enlightenment. It was during the Enlightenment that human reasoning was used to improve the lives of humankind. The goals of rational humanity were considered to be knowledge, freedom, and happiness. Values such as reason, progress, tolerance, equality, human dignity and freedom of belief have lost nothing of their relevance. Truly Grand ideals, don`t you think?

ECLECTIC LOOK

The Grand Design is all about limitless expression. It's vibrant and charismatic. Sophisticated, but not pompous. Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet. And, under any circumstance, a Grand Dame exuding class. The interior design of Grand House has an eclectic style suited to the taste of the 1920s. The hotel's décor is an elegant transition between Art Nouveau and Classical Composition with a Colonial touch.

WHITE & KAKI

The company White and Kaki was the mastermind behind the Grand Interior. We couldn't have found anyone better. Their projects have reached all corners of Europe, embellishing private homes, showrooms, offices, restaurants and charming hotels. At Grand House, the Portuguese interior design duo celebrated the beauty of eclecticism.

The light-flooded interior combines playful Art Deco elements and the stately Portuguese colonial style, but also - as one would expect from seafaring people - traits from the Western and Oriental worlds. Many of the chandeliers are precious finds that were discovered over the years in several trips. They were mixed with antique Chinese vases, an Asian screen from the 1920s and precious fabrics by Louis Vuitton: the result is a timeless atmosphere of well-being, bringing together past and present, and inspiring us to collect memories along the way.

Our Values

We don’t believe in only one path. We don’t believe in one opinion or one philosophy, but rather in a variety of interests and opinions. For us, diversity and openness are the key for a more tolerant and generally better world. Open-minded, free-thinking, honest and committed to the ideals of humanism — that is how the Grand Dame would have been and how Grand House is running its business every day.

Indeed, luxury is one of the most overused labels. So what is the meaning of true luxury?

For us, it’s a combination of authenticity, simplicity and soul. We embrace this trio as the guardian of a certain personal touch, a hospitality style that we find essential and is currently in risk of becoming lost. At Grand House, there’s no room for pretension or stuffiness, just genuine hospitality.
